They also typically have several years of experience in the health and safety field or the general field of their company. Since their work involves identification and interpretation of federal, state, and local safety codes, they must have outstanding analytical skills as well as a strong attention to detail.
EHS coordinators work as part of a leadership team, and they may work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance teams, as well as support staff in order to accomplish their goals. They typically report to senior management, but they are also accountable to external health and safety regulators such as those from government agencies.
These coordinators typically work in a business office environment, although they typically make site visits to locations such as a plant floor, warehouse, or external buildings.
