Arkansas City's historic Commercial District, located at Desoto Avenue and Sprague Street, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2), all of it land. It sits entirely in the Delta Lowlands sub-region of the Arkansas Delta.
