Job Description for Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician

Environmental health and safety (EHS) technicians are responsible for collecting, delivering, preparing, and transferring many types of chemicals and other sensitive/hazardous materials around job sites. They are also in charge of conducting inspections to ensure that all equipment and processes meet business and regulatory requirements. Additionally, these professionals make sure the supply of chemicals and materials is maintained, train other employees in all regulatory processes, and make sure that all employees are following guidelines. This is generally a full-time position that requires some travel. EHS technicians also need to be able to occasionally lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces.


Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician Tasks

  • Follow procedures to monitor health and safety at designated locations, such as ergonomics, air quality, and waste disposal.
  • Know, apply, and document state, OSHA, and federal regulations, and identify problems and suggest remedies.
  • Educate, monitor, and train personnel in safe work procedures.
  • Develop and disseminate manuals and documentation around health and safety.

Hackberry is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,261 at the 2010 census, down from 1,699 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Grammy Award-nominated Hackberry Ramblers, a Cajun music group, are from the community. Hackberry is located in north-central Cameron Parish at 29°59′11″N 93°23′50″W (29.986485, -93.397190), at an elevation of 8 feet (2.4 m) above sea level on the west side of Calcasieu Lake. Louisiana State Highway 27 passes through the CDP, leading north 17 miles (27 km) to Sulphur and south 20 miles (32 km) to Holly Beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
