Job Description for Environmental Specialist

An environmental specialist is in charge of enforcing and regulating the containment and disposal of hazardous materials.They help ensure that federal, state, and local regulations are followed, as well as perform environmental studies to determine the effects of pollution on the local environment. If a violation occurs, the environmental specialist must perform follow-up interviews and studies to ensure that the offending party corrects the situation and assess the effects on the environment. The environmental specialist must pay attention to detail and be well organized, as they are in charge of keeping inspection logs and submitting summaries of their inspection logs; these skills are also important for keeping accurate inventory records for hazardous materials and chemicals.


Environmental Specialist Tasks

  • Design, develop, and execute the environmental management system.
  • Monitor waste storage programs across all sites and ensure waste streams are managed in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Conduct chemical inventories, audits, and inspections of facilities.
  • Coordinate with a team of environmental specialists to support the overall facility compliance process.

Washington is a city in Daviess County, Indiana, United States. The population was 11,509 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Daviess County. Washington was platted in 1815. It was named from Washington Township. The railroad was built through Washington in 1857. By 1889, it was a major depot and repair yard for the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad took over the line in 1893. During this time, the railroad employed over 1,000 workers.
