Hampton Bays is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 13,603 at the 2010 census. Hampton Bays is in the Town of Southampton. Hampton Bays is located at 40°52′26″N 72°31′16″W (40.873940, -72.521167), about 81 miles (130 km) to the east of Manhattan (New York City). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 18.1 square miles (47.0 km2), of which 12.9 square miles (33.5 km2) is land and 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), or 28.54%, is water. The hamlet is surrounded by three bays, the Great Peconic Bay to the north, and Shinnecock and Tiana bays to the south.
