Hotel, Motel, or Resort Desk Clerk Advice

Q: What do you wish you knew about your job when you first started out?

Hotel, Motel, or Resort Desk Clerk in St. George:
"More Than Just Clerical."
Some hotels reduce their staff to save money. Since some hotels are required to have a front desk agent on staff 24 hours a day, front desk associates are sometimes required to do other work. Additional tasks can be in any of the following areas: housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, security, concierge, breakfast/food service, etc. Many smaller hotels will only have the front desk clerk on shift from 5:00pm in the evening until 7:00am the next morning. During this time the front desk is required to take care of all the guests' needs, solve problems, and give excellent customer service. In these hotels, don't be surprised if you are doing more than just answering the phone and checking guests in and out.
