Job Description for Internal Medicine Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)

An internal medicine advance registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) is an individual whose job requirements are similar to those of physicians and other registered nurses. Internal medicine ARNPs work primarily in health care facilities, and their general duties include examining patients, diagnosing patients' medical issues, referring patients to appropriate outside treatment programs, and prescribing medications to treat various ailments. Additionally, these professionals may teach relevant classes that promote disease prevention and patient wellness, as well as provide health counseling to individuals of various ages groups.

Advance registered nurse practitioners are required to have a bachelor's degree in nursing, as well as a master’s degree or equivalent in a certified nurse practitioner program. Some other requirements that are needed to become an internal medicine advanced registered nurse practitioner are current ARNP licensure and certification in their specialty. They should also have CPR certification and a current provider card in advanced cardiac life support and basic life support. Internal medicine ARNPs generally must have at least three or four years of related experience.
