Minimum Data Sets is a process required by the U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services for all individuals in care of Medicare or Medicaid medical facilities. The MDS assessment process is time-consuming, and must be completed in a meticulous fashion; for this reason, the MDS coordinator must be extremely knowledgeable of this process. They often explain these processes to their nursing staff and examine all paperwork completed by staff to ensure it meets MDS standards.
