Job Description for MDS Coordinator
A minimum data sets (MDS) coordinator serves an important role in medical offices or locations specializing in longer-term care. Minimum Data Sets is a process required by the U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services for all individuals in care of Medicare or Medicaid medical facilities. The MDS assessment process is time-consuming, and must be completed in a meticulous fashion; for this reason, the MDS coordinator must be extremely knowledgeable of this process. They often explain these processes to their nursing staff and examine all paperwork completed by staff to ensure it meets MDS standards. If it does not, the coordinator must be able to clearly and effectively communicate the problems with the staff member who completed it so problems can be resolved.
