Job Description for Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

A nurse anesthetist administers anesthesia to patients. The nurse works on a team, often alongside an anesthesiologist. Strong communication skills are important, in order to be able to communicate well with patients and other team members. The nurse should be professional yet compassionate, in order to explain procedures to patients and to help them stay at ease. Prior to administering any anesthesia, the nurse perform a patient evaluation to determine the type and quantity of anesthesia necessary. Prior health conditions should be considered.
