Job Description for Porter

A porter performs basic cleaning and maintenance duties for their organization. They are typically employed by companies that have grounds that need to be maintained; this includes apartment complexes, retirement communities, country clubs, golf courses, and airports, among others. A porter generally perform janitorial duties, as well as helps solve some maintenance-related problems. They are expected to maintain the area under their supervision, keeping it clean of trash and other debris. They might also perform some basic maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs and fixing doors and windows.


Porter Tasks

  • Greet customers, guide them to check-in or their room and explain amenities and services.
  • Move luggage to and from customer's room and vehicle.
  • Bring room service orders to customers and ensure customer needs are met.
  • Provide customers with directions and information on attractions in the surrounding area.
