A porter performs basic cleaning and maintenance duties for their organization. They are typically employed by companies that have grounds that need to be maintained; this includes apartment complexes, retirement communities, country clubs, golf courses, and airports, among others. A porter generally perform janitorial duties, as well as helps solve some maintenance-related problems. They are expected to maintain the area under their supervision, keeping it clean of trash and other debris. A porter may also be responsible for ensuring cleaning and maintenance equipment is organized and safely stored. They must maintain safe and clean areas and report any safety concerns or violations as soon as possible. Other tasks performed by porters may include landscaping duties such as mowing grass and watering plants, as well as interacting with residents, customers, and fellow employees. Porters almost always work outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions.
