A production assistant for a radio station supports the production of their station's programming. They may perform a diverse range of tasks, such as conducting research, preparing any necessary materials for broadcast, writing scripts to be used on the air and assisting with pre-interviews of program guests. Production assistants may also assist the production team as programs are being recorded; this could include, for example, monitoring and editing incoming feeds or operating any necessary technical equipment. They may also perform web-related tasks such as preparing blog posts, as well as monitoring and posting on station or program social media accounts. A production assistant at a radio station generally works directly under the supervision of the station's production director. A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field is typically required for this position. Although production assistants do not necessarily need experience because this is an assistant-level position, some positions require relevant experience such as an internship in broadcast media. Production assistants should pay close attention to detail and be able to multitask, as they are often required to coordinate multiple programs across a number of time slots.
