Job Description for Quality Manager, Pharmaceuticals
Quality managers of pharmaceuticals are responsible for ensuring that the systems in place for manufacturing pharmaceutical drugs comply with all GMP regulations and the products created are safe for patients. These managers work in fields such as life science, biotechnology, and clinical laboratory science, so they are generally in control of approving and reviewing necessary documentations, SOPs, and procedures to ensure the quality of pharmaceutical samples. Those in this position must be aware of all state and GMP regulations and federal policies for quality assurance, and also supervise and train staff to comply with these regulations. They often work with research/development teams and generally work under a director of pharmacy quality assurance.
Candidates for the position must have a master's or bachelor's degree in a medical, scientific or pharmaceutical field, and most managers have eight to ten years of experience in a quality assurance environment. Strong critical thinking and technical skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication, are also required. They must be able to communicate with many technical-minded employees, including researchers, customers, and technicians. They must also have excellent management abilities to manage complex projects which may last for years, and Microsoft office skills such as Word, Power Point, and Excel are beneficial.
