Job Description for Research & Development (R&D) Manager, Pharmaceuticals

A research & development (R&D) manager for pharmaceuticals supervises the work of teams developing new drugs and/or improving existing drugs. The R&D manager carefully directs team members in working toward various research goals, as well as compiling data regarding the team's findings. As the manager, this person typically uses this data to issue progress reports to a director or vice president of R&D; these reports help the company accurately forecast when theoretical research or trials may result in practical application in marketable drug therapies. It also allows the manager and the executives to whom he or she reports to direct or refocus research as needed.
