A contracted research associate is the person who is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting research in a given field and is hired on a contractual basis. This position can be found in a variety of fields, traditionally in a university or higher learning institution. A person in this position will typically work in an office. However, research-related travel may be necessary. While this position will normally keep traditional office hours (daytime, weekday shifts), it would not be unordinary for the research associate to work long hours. A contracted research associate may work as part of a research team or independently under a supervisor. This position will have a number of responsibilities, including developing plans for research, outlining research procedures, planning research schedule, conducting research, discussing research findings with personnel, preparing reports regarding research and projects, collecting and recording data, doing analysis and evaluation of data, preparing research for publication or presentation, interviewing relevant researchers or subjects, acquiring necessary equipment and supplies, supervising students who may also be working on the research project, attending meetings, and monitoring the budget associated with the research project. This position will require somebody who is highly organized and who is an expert critical thinker. A contracted research associate must be able to work well under tight deadlines.
