A high school diploma or equivalent is often a minimum requirement for this position, and a college degree is not necessary. School crossing guards should have excellent vision, corrected or not, and prior cross-guarding experience is highly beneficial. Of course, they must work well with children, as much of their job involves interacting with students and helping them get to school.
School crossing guards work in the morning hours when school is starting and the middle afternoon when the school-day ends. They may be required to work during lunch hours, as well.
