Job Description for Senior Nuclear Medical Technologist

Senior nuclear medical technologists are employed primarily by healthcare organizations such as hospitals and other medical centers. Most employers prefer applicants who have an associate's or bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine or a related scientific field. Employers are also searching for applicants with previous experience in the field, as this is a senior-level position. Certification is typically required in two forms: a certificate for phlebotomy, and a current and valid certified nuclear medicine technologist certificate from the state board wherein the employer resides.

  • Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription.
  • Collects and analyzes data, produces a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients using radioisotope equipment under direction of physician.
  • Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and assist them during procedures.
