Job Description for Sr. Associate Management Consultant
Senior associate management consultants (SAMCs) lead teams in evaluating assigned consulting and analytical projects to improve business and maximize growth via strategy, structure, operations, and management.Read More...
While these senior consultants are ultimately responsible for the team's data analysis and interpretation, this job emphasizes effective communication at multiple levels, as they communicate with clients both virtually and in-person to understand current process design/mapping and ascertain business challenges. Then, relying on analyses, they develop hypotheses as to why certain challenges exist and provide objective recommendations for how clients can resolve these issues. Depending on the nature of the project, they usually spend some time at clients' locations, two/three nights a week on the road, and long hours beyond the typical workday. At the team level, SAMCs are tasked with evaluating each analyst's skill set and delegating project tasks based on their strengths and weaknesses. They must rely not only on the team for data analysis, but also promote the development of team members' communication and analytical skills and relay progress to supervisors and managing directors.
An undergraduate degree is generally required for low-level management consulting positions, while an advanced degree in business, communications, or a related field and many years of experience are necessary for a senior position. Aspiring SAMCs should also have a track record of effective leadership, innovative solutions in a variety of businesses, and positive feedback from prior clientele and team members.
