Technical Consultant Advice

Q: What do you wish you knew about your job when you first started out?

Technical Consultant in Tampa:
"No one Owes you a thing."
Learn now that no one owes you a thing. Despite what teachers and others may say, you must work as though you will receive NO help. Many will help you along the way in your career, but the quickest way to lose that help is to act as though you are entitled to that help. Be humble and kind and work hard.

Technical Consultant in Sandy:
"Implementing clients on our platform."
Pros: Working with interesting companies.
Cons: Stress.

Technical Consultant in Sandy:
"Bad outways the good."
Pros: I love what I do. Fixing phones, inventory control, everything in my job description.
Cons: I also had to do everything NOT in my job description. All that management cared about was sales. If I had a sales opportunity with a customer, it was very common for the Tech department sales to get stolen by the sales reps, and when bought to managements attention, their response always was, "They are just doing their job!" In the 2 years I have worked here, I have be required to take a sales training at least once a week, just recently, they launched the FIRST technical training ive ever seen in 2 years. And if you ever stand up for yourself and go to HR, from the moment they find out you have contacted HR, you can guarantee they will find any excuse to wright you up. I have actually seen 2 people be set up and received wright ups ending up in termination because they went to HR for unfairness. Its also a "who you know" situation when it comes to promotions and hiring opportunities. So done with this company.
