Transportation engineers oversee a variety of engineering assignments related to transportation systems. Their main objective is to ensure that all transportation projects are completed on time and stay within budget. Most of the time, transportation engineers work in the technology, traffic, construction, airport, and railway industries, but they occasionally work in other industries as well. Transportation engineers are responsible for all aspects of transportation project scheduling, planning, and pricing. They also monitor design and planning phases for highways, bridges, traffic controls, and lighting. They gather and analyze engineering data to develop recommendations and reports. Additionally, transportation engineers work with project managers to ensure that all projects are well planned and cost effective.
