Job Description for Transportation Planner

Transportation planners design, maintain, and improve community infrastructure such as bridges, highway roads, and interstate expressways so that drivers can safely and easily travel from one place to another. These professionals may work with or for city, local, and state governments. This position may also include creating and implementing strategies to improve or further develop public transportation options.

Transportation Planner Tasks
  • Coordinate technical schedule, permitting and activities for internal and external staff/consultants.
  • Represent organization to public, regulatory groups, and other groups.
  • Analyze sites, environmental impacts, mitigation measures, and proposed projects.
  • Write technical reports, proposals, environmental assessments and inspection documents.
