Truck drivers are typically required to be 21 years of age or older and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license. Most positions require a minimum of 25,000 miles driving a tractor-trailer vehicle and no more than 2 minor moving violations over the course of a three-year period, and applicants must also be able to pass an extensive criminal and employment background check in addition to physical agility and drug-screening tests.Read More...
Candidates for this position should be able to perform basic physical feats such as standing, sitting, walking, climbing, reaching, squatting, bending, and stooping, and must be able to lift at least 60 pounds and handle a truck weighing around 400 pounds when fully loaded. They should also be able to operate a dolly or hand truck in heavy-lifting circumstances and in a variety of weather/climate conditions, including dry, icy, bumpy, or uneven terrain.
Truck drivers must be able to communicate effectively, perform basic mathematical functions, and spend the majority of their shifts on the road operating a vehicle, but also a significant amount of time exerting labor in loading and unloading the truck.
