A wellness coach provides counseling to clients so that various aspects of health can be improved. This counseling may be done on an individual or group basis. Some things that a wellness coach will cover are nutrition, exercise, and reducing stress. The wellness coach will help to create an individual plan that the patient should undergo.Read More...
The wellness coach should be aware of the client’s needs regarding ability and health, in order to create a safe and plausible plan. This may involve working with the patient’s medical providers. Wellness coaches may work at various places, such as freestanding practices, hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. Some wellness coaches will physically travel to sites to administer services, while others will provide services virtually through the internet.
Generally, at least a bachelor’s degree in health sciences or a related field is needed. Current and valid licensing in wellness or something similar is often needed. Some experience may be required prior to working as a wellness coach. This experience may be acquired by working assistant jobs or carrying out internships. Strong knowledge of various types of exercise, food, and health concepts are needed, in order to succeed as a wellness coach. Customer service skills are often important in this job so that clients will continue to participate and refer others to the wellness coach. Some positions are full-time, while others are part-time.
