Special events managers are required to work with many different people in performing their job. They must be able to interest performers in coming to the venues that the special events managers represents. They may work with members of town councils and the marketing teams of their own business to promote an event when one is scheduled. Special events managers work to ensure the event that they schedule is followed through and that everything is ready for it on time. Therefore, they must meet with the people involved in setting up the event and find out exactly what it is they will need for the event to take place. This includes both personnel and materials. Special events managers work in many different industries, including for-profit and non-profit establishments. The working environments may change from time to time. Special events managers usually work in an office, but they may visit people at their place of employment in order to schedule an event. They may even attend events as part of their job to see if it is something they would be interested in having at their own venue. The work hours are typical business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless there is an event coming up and they need to be involved in overseeing preparations. Then they must be available at all times until the event is over.
Required for this job is a bachelor's degree in business management. It also requires experience in event scheduling and related fields, as it is a management position.
