Those who have five to nine years of work experience see average salaries of $77K per year. When we consider tenure, a substantial portion of employees (35 percent) have been working for one to four years and make $64K annually on average.
Nearing the top of the pay scale are Construction Project Managers, Commercial Construction Superintendents, Construction Superintendents, and Project Engineers; while the first receives the highest median pay at $110K per year, the other salaries come in at about $86K, around $83K, and approximately $75K, respectively. On the lower end are Field Engineers at $61K on average.
When it comes to location, the highest average paycheck (approximately $96K annually) can be spotted in Los Angeles, Calif.; Denver, Colo. ($78K), New York, N.Y. (around $78K), and Seattle, Wash. (about $67K) are the next top-paying cities. Dallas, Texas is near the bottom for pay at $63K. By state, Turner Construction Company pays its California employees the most; the pay rate there is $83K per year.
Certifications and Degrees
Project Management Professionals are compensated at a much higher rate than non-authorized workers, bringing in close to about $115K annually. Certified Safety Managers with credentials can live quite comfortably; median salaries come in at around $112K per year. At Turner Construction Company, employees who hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology receive the highest salaries at $124K.
When it comes to skills, employees who report Budget Management among their abilities seem to make the most, reporting a median income of $92K annually. Project Management is a popular skill among Turner Construction Company workers, with just over two-fifths of those surveyed reporting using it on the job. Construction Estimating, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office were also reported by many survey participants.
Benefits and Perks
One in three employees have paid vacation, and only about a fifth of survey participants can take paid time off for illness. Most employees plan for retirement by taking advantage of the company-sponsored 401(k) program.
