Philadelphia Metro Area Pay Trends

Updated April 5, 2012
2012: If only Philly’s residents could ring that Liberty Bell. They have good news to celebrate! Healthy wage growth seen at the end of 2011 continued into Q1 2012, with wages up almost 2 percent above the previous year, far outpacing national averages.

2007-2011: From 2007 through 2010, wages in the City of Brotherly Love tracked very closely with national averages.

After a healthy rise of over 4 percent during 2007, workers’ wages in Philadelphia drifted up slowly over 2008, reaching their peak at the end of that year. Then wages dropped in early 2009 and remained effectively unchanged through 2010.

Finally, 2011 marked the end of a recession-era wage depression for Philly residents as earnings grew steadily throughout the year.
