Financial compensation for Technical Writers is rather low — on average only about $54K — relative to the rest of the company.
Years of Experience
Those who have five to nine years of work experience see average salaries of $74K annually. When we consider tenure, a substantial portion of employees (34 percent) have been working for one to four years and make $62K per year on average.
When it comes to location, the highest average paycheck ($82K annually) can be spotted in Chicago, Ill.; Lancaster, Pa. (about $81K), Burr Ridge, Ill. (approximately $77K), and Davenport, Iowa ($65K) are the next top-paying cities. Approaching the lower end of the pay scale (at around $62K) is Racine, Wisc. CNH America LLC workers in Pennsylvania earn the most — about $90K per year on average.
Certifications and Degrees
Monetary compensation comes to $70K annually for Engineer in Trainings, far surpassing the earnings of non-credentialed workers. Earning a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt certification garners significant financial rewards of around $63K per year on average. CNH America LLC compensates Master of Business Administration (MBA)-holders the most at $98K annually.
When it comes to skills, Product Development seems to bolster pay the most; employees who claim proficiency also enjoy a median income of $83K per year. Project Management is considered a run-of-the-mill skill; roughly one in four of CNH America LLC's people use it regularly. Microsoft Office, Engineering Design, and Microsoft Excel were also reported by many survey participants.
Employees who completed the survey skew strongly male, with a male-to-female ratio of more than 3 to 1.
Benefits and Perks
Only one in four employees enjoy paid vacation days and paid sick time — a rather disappointing finding. The vast majority of employees allocate some part of their earnings to the company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. Health insurance comes as part of the deal for nearly all survey participants, and most workers report receiving dental coverage as well. The list of perks also includes a company cell phone, tuition reimbursement, life insurance, and a casual working environment.
