When it comes to location, the highest average paycheck ($32.50 per hour) can be spotted in Boston, Mass.; Lowell, Mass. (approximately $31.11), Newport, Vt. (about $26.96), and Pittsburgh, Pa. ($17.10) are the next top-paying cities. Vero Beach, Fla. is one of the lowest-paid cities, with earnings averaging around $10.49. By state, Massachusetts offers the highest pay at $31.00 per hour.

Years of Experience

Five to nine years of work experience seem to result in median wages of around $15.55 per hour. The largest slice of the VNA Healthcare workforce (34 percent) has been working for one to four years and earns, on average, about $16.30 per hour.


The highest average salaries go to Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN)s, who bring in close to $35.51 per hour, though Registered Nurses are not far behind at $30.49 along with Physical Therapist Assistants ($29.00) and Hospice Registered Nurses (approximately $28.00).
