Clinical estheticians provide a variety of treatments to maintain and rejuvenate the appearance and health of clients' skin. They typically treat clients by appointment to address a variety of skin care concerns and also work to reverse aging in skin and reduce skin imperfections caused by acne or surgery. A high school diploma is often a minimum requirement for this position, and aspiring clinical estheticians must complete state-approved cosmetology school training and acquire a state license. Although training can vary, all estheticians must complete a state-approved program to learn about skin care procedures such as facials, chemical peels, and hair removal and pass written and practical examinations. Interpersonal and communication skills are important in this position, and some may attend ongoing education courses to improve their skills.
Clinical Esthetician Tasks
- Keep records of client needs and preferences, and the services provided.
- Refer clients to medical personnel for treatment of serious skin problems.
- Evaluate and treat the facial skin to maintain and improve its appearance, using specialized techniques and products such as peels and masks.
- Demonstrate how to clean and care for skin properly, and recommend skin-care regimens, colors or products for treatment.
