Job Description for Forest Ranger
Forest rangers are responsible for helping preserve forests and protecting them from natural or manmade harm. They perform a wide variety of duties within the forest and in an administrative capacity. For example, they help create and maintain trails, make decisions on whether trails are safe to use, and prevent and respond to forest fires. Additionally, forest rangers help maintain fire-fighting equipment and may provide guidance and leadership for volunteer fire-fighting crews. Postsecondary education - such as a bachelor's degree in forestry or another relevant field - is typically required for forest ranger positions. Forest rangers may begin their career as forest ranger technicians before working their way up to a forest ranger role. Forest rangers must be able to make decisions quickly and effectively in high-stress environments, as well as be able to fulfill the physical duties required by a forest ranger position. They must have an in-depth understanding of forests and forest preservation as well.
