Hair salon and spa managers are in charge of the daily operations of a salon and/or spa and serve as direct supervisors for all staff within the store.
These managers typically have prior managerial experience in a similar capacity. Due to the nature of the business, they should have open availability and be able to cover shifts when they are needed. The manager is also required to keep stock of inventory to ensure that proper products are available to clients at all times. They also monitor stock to ensure property is properly secured to prevent theft and are typically responsible for conducting daily walk-throughs of the facility to address any maintenance issues and ensure that the environment has been properly cleaned.
While a degree is not required for this position, a background in cosmetology and retail is highly beneficial. Candidates should have prior managerial experience in retail in order to serve as the face of the salon and be able to work with all types of individuals and personalities while providing excellent customer service. They must also have strong computer skills and be self-motivated in order to lead their team, and are responsible for keeping all costs in line within a budget.
