The main responsibility of a hotel room service attendant is to ensure that all guest rooms in a hotel are maintained.
These attendants are generally responsible for: greeting guests as they arrive and offering to take their bags to the room; cleaning rooms; changing linens and towels; polishing room furniture; submitting work orders when something is in need of repair; processing lost items; wearing safety equipment when dealing with chemicals; ensuring that customers are satisfied with their time at the hotel; and checking customers in and out in if/when the hotel is short-staffed.
Hours for hotel service attendants vary greatly depending on the hotel's check-out time and how busy it is in that particular season. This job is very physical and forces attendants to move around quite a bit, and things will often get messy. They may also have to deal with chemicals on occasion.
Applicants for this position should have a high school degree or higher, and important skills include: interpersonal skills, verbal communication skills, prioritization, on-the-fly problem-solving, patience, the ability to multitask, and the ability to endure long hours of repetitive work.
