Job Description for News Analyst, Reporter or Correspondent

News analysts, reporters or correspondents help produce and publish the news in a variety of media, including print publications, television, radio and the Internet, among others. They conduct research, interview subjects, gather images and video as needed, and produce stories that are ready for an editor to review. They must be able to translate complex news items to a broader audience, ensuring that news is clear, easy to understand and informative. News analysts, reporters and correspondents often work indoors in an office setting to contact sources, newsmakers and their editorial colleagues, as well as produce their stories and answer questions throughout the editing process. However, these professionals often go “into the field” to gather or report on emerging news stories and conduct interviews as well. Some travel is generally required for this position, which may include filing stories or conducting live or pre-recorded segments from the field.
