Logistics specialists are in charge of effectively coordinating day-to-day logistics operations for their organization. One of their main responsibilities include preparing initial documentation regarding planning stages. They review contract plans and process reports based on their findings. Most of the time, logistics specialists collect and analyze relevant information regarding performance metrics. They also coordinate activities and make sure company resources are used efficiently. Logistics specialists may responsible for handling details of scheduling, products, or equipments related to logistics, depending on their company. They provide technical expertise for developing plans, and coaching other employees in logistical matters. Logistics specialists must communicate with other teams within their organization, as well as develop excellent relationships with external vendors to coordinate logistics details. They consolidate operational support and coordinate technical assistance in case a problem arises. They also write summaries of events to create logistics support projects, as well as integrate their advanced analytical skills to prevent operation issues. Logistics specialists are required to follow strict policies and procedures when developing logistics tasks. They generally report to the logistics supervisor or leader in their department.
This position generally requires a bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field. Field certifications are a plus. These professionals must be highly organized individuals that pay strong attention to detail. They should also have strong interpersonal skills, which they use to make recommendations for changes as needed.
