Material controllers ensure the correct materials and services are available for the company's day-to-day operations. Daily duties include ensuring that necessary equipment and materials are received, stored, and maintained properly. From there, they are distributed as needed to various departments within the company for short-term and long-term usage. During this process, regular communication with all involved parties (including clients and vendors) is necessary to maintain relationships and cooperation. The material controller's work is mostly performed in an indoor environment, but the warehouse environment may experience extreme temperatures depending on the job location. Hours vary greatly with each opening, and most positions have a variety of shifts available for the positions. Physical requirements may include some lifting, walking, and standing, but hazards are generally minimal. Positions as a materials controller are widely available in a variety of industries, with a large need in companies that have large warehouses.
