Job Description for Environmental Health Officer

The average environmental health officer is responsible for investigating incidents that regard human and environmental health such as accidents at work, noise pollution, environmental pollution, toxic contamination, food poisoning, waste management, and pest infestations. There is a large amount of time that is spent away from the office visiting properties such as food outlets, farms, shops, commercial premises, private/public accommodations, and industrial organizations. Other various responsibilities include serving legal notices, compiling reports, providing training courses, providing court evidence, gathering samples to be tested in labs, and investigating complaints. Other various duties that the job requires include managing immunization campaigns, designing and conducting health education programs for the public, assessing the potential risk of possible health threats, responding to disasters and emergency health-related situations, inspecting and licensing premises that may have disease risks to the community, maintaining records, preparing statistics, and writing reports.
