Job Description for Excavator Operator

An excavator operator operates heavy machinery to move materials and clear ground, digging holes and trenches to prepare sites for construction. They may also be required to occasionally perform maintenance on the machines. A typical day for an excavator operator is often spent on a construction site in conditions that can be unpredictable and/or extreme; for example, there may be heat, cold, dust, and noise. However, most machines have air-conditioned, soundproof cabs that may make work more comfortable. Excavator operators' hours may vary depending on their employers' needs, and they may include weekends and night shifts. They might also be required to travel to remote work sites.
