Job Description for Structural Metal Fabricator / Fitter
Structural metal fabricators/fitters are responsible for fabricating and fitting metal structures for their company. They are in charge of create metal pieces to complete projects and ensuring that are correctly positioned and meet the project's needed. Structural metal fabricators/fitters study and analyze engineering drawing before the fabrication process, as well as use a personal computer to create molds and designs before the metal is molded into specific shapes. They take part into the fitting process and assess safety after the metal structures have been put into place. Structural metal fabricators/fitters also examine metal components and stock to determine project compatibility, conducting measurements using hand tools, and participating in the equipment maintenance process by cleaning up machinery after use. Additionally, they operate fabricating machines and move parts into position following layout specifications using their hands, welding torches, and other specialized tools. They analyze proposed material list to make changes before ordering supplies. Generally, structural metal fabricators/fitters report their progress to the structural manager or supervisor in their department.
Previous experience fabricating metal pieces - and as a fitter - are required for this position. Structural metal fabricators/fitters should pay strong attention to detail, be problem solvers, and work well with other fabricators/fitters in a team environment to achieve all company objective in a timely manner.
