They are responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to retain brand identity, as well as increase brand loyalty and generate revenue by using attractive displays. They research market and industry trends, using the results to create impressive visuals for use with their company's offerings. They interact with internal and external partners to form consistent messaging through merchandising displays, work with colleagues to identify possible merchandising placement, prepare and execute public relations events, and report their progress to the merchandising supervisor or director in their department. Visual merchandising managers use a personal computer to review visual files and respond to correspondence from executives. They also participate in negotiation and budget processes and assist with display installations; they may also supervise visual merchandising staff.
A bachelor's degree in merchandising, industrial design, business management, or a related field is required for this position. Previous managerial experience and experience in a similar position is necessary as well. Visual merchandising managers should be able to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
