Job Description for Distribution Manager
Distribution managers are responsible for the day-to-day tasks related to shipping large quantities of goods. Companies of all types require the services of a distribution manager, from the food industry to electronics. The work of a distribution manager typically includes monitoring large amounts of inventory for quality and quantity, overseeing warehouses and teams of warehouse workers, and meeting the demands of customers. Additionally, this job often requires walking long distances to different areas of large warehouses. This job is performed primarily indoors, although the occasional need to be outdoors is likely. Distribution managers usually work a day shift, although the possibility of evening or nighttime duties exists in the case of an after-hours situation requiring immediate attention.
For this position, a high school diploma or equivalent is generally required; a bachelor's degree in a field such as management or business is preferred.
