The first role of the QA director is to know their company’s product and how it is meant to work; they then implement a strategy throughout the QA department and employee team that ensure products are properly tested and work as intended. This normally requires the QA director to work directly with engineers in production and in research and development to fully understand the products and how they are meant to function. The QA director then assists these departments by testing it at various development stages through rigorous protocols meant to simulate many conceivable usage scenarios.
The quality assurance director is also expected to help keep a product in development on schedule, and they must interface between the QA department and the production and development departments to ensure that deadlines are met. The QA director helps establish necessary staffing levels to ensure the accuracy and thoroughness of testing throughout the development and production process.
The education requirements of a quality assurance director is normally at least a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. For larger companies, a post-graduate degree in management - or even a degree minor in a technical discipline - may be needed.
