BSW Lakeway TX. Registered Nurse. It’s one of the weirdest hospital to work for. They have managers but no leaders. They say they want feedback and a team that is involved with quality healthcare.... But that’s not true. They do not want strong Employees. There are doctors who don’t like nurses and they are bullies. Managers say they will always back the nurses but they don’t. In fact, many of the managers are bullies and they aren’t held accountable for their actions. Run don’t walk away from this facility. Even the Swaddle team admits that BSW Lakeway has never integrated into the Baylor Scott and White philosophy. Very high turnover in nursing - close to 35%. Play by the rules and culture at Lakeway while you search for another hospital and city.

Management very flexable with scheduling. Also, help is always available when working in the field with patients. Employee training is always is important to the company and they will provide as needed to ensure you're good to go! There's always work available and the pay is good.

Pros: Carilion provided a substantial relocation reimbursement for me to move here. Carilion's interviewing process is professional, positive, thorough, & aimed at helping you select a best fit for you. Carilion encourages (rather than discourages) employees to transfer to other departments if they are seeking other opportunities. As a Carilion employee, the Carilion system seems to take pride in "caring for their own". As a patient, you feel like family. Carilion is a large system. This allows a plethora of jobs & opportunities to choose from across the area. Cons: Low Pay. Despite 14 additional years of RN experience, I am making less than I made in 2006 where the cost of living was identical if not even lower!! Competing hospital systems in the area pay substantially more. The VA system's benefits package crushes Carilion's & their pay advancement is stellar. PTO policy: If you work in an outpatient setting, Carilion requires you to use your PTO for holidays! Crazy, right?!! You can easily burn through 32 hours of PTO from Thanksgiving to New year's. It would be nice if staff had the option to go without pay & save their PTO. If you work Monday through Friday, you have to use your PTO to get off. A normal healthy person going to all the necessary prevention visits (every 6 month dental cleaning, yearly PCP, yearly mammogram, yearly ObGyn, vision check, etc) can blow through their PTO just by being responsible & taking care of themselves.
