Knowing technology and being a guru is great but you must also has two important ingredients at any work place: People skills and a great communicator. No matter where you work, you work with people in all sort of characters, backgrounds and some like you and others may not.
Consequently, you need to have skills that get you get along as much as you can and communicate not only verbally but properly putting your ideas clear specially when using email. People get impression of you even when they don't see you just by reading your words, thoughts, coherence.
