The position of assistant professor offers a unique opportunity to shape the education of young individuals as well as perform research to further the interests of the field. An assistant professor's job description can be summarized into two categories: Teaching and Research/Contribution to the University. Teaching is a point of emphasis. Assistant professors will be required to teach courses in a specific field. The quality of teaching will be evaluated by the students. Professors should also serve as a mentor to students seeking advice. Holding office hours to provide mentorship as well as tutoring to help students is encouraged.
Aside from teaching, assistant professors are expected to contribute to the field or to the university. This can be done through research or serving on curriculum committees.
