The IT architect works with many different departments across a company. As such, they must be professional, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and have an analytical mind. They should be able to explain their work to people outside of their field, as well as communicate with other IT specialists. Information technology architects need to be able to work unsupervised while thinking outside of the box, in order to find innovative solutions to problems. An individual applying for this position typically must possess at minimum a bachelor's degree in a computer-related field. Many employers will require more education, as well as five or more years of experience. An IT architect also may benefit from having previous leadership positions.
