Typical responsibilities include oversight and coordination of the company’s communication and marketing plans in areas such as advertising, public relations, event-planning, and more. Good performance depends upon establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with other marketing and communication staff, as well as other department managers within the company. This can also extend to people outside of the company - other agencies, members of the media, and, occasionally, members of the public.
Regional marketing directors must be creative and capable of thinking on their feet, and able to create and implement effective strategies to accomplish tasks. Many years of work experience are often required to fulfill the duties of this position. Many candidates will possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as communication and coordination are necessary functions of the position. Public speaking and presenting are often required, as well.
Depending on the location, regional marketing directors can expect to travel somewhat often for work purposes. It will also be necessary for these people to be proficient in word processing and presentation software, as well as basic internet use and e-mail at the very least.
