Hotel reservation clerks assist with reservation requests from customers and determine the rooms available to meet customers' expectations and desires.

They must also verify guests' personal and payment information, assign rooms, and discuss arrangements via e-mail or letters.

Hotel reservation clerks typically sit or stand at a computer and are tasked with making, changing, and canceling reservations and offering help whenever possible. They may also provide clerical support to other staff members and may work either at the hotel's front desk or a call center. Those who work at the front desk often converse with customers, explain hotel policies, provide keys, and resolve customer service issues.

Formal education requirements are not strict for this position, though most hotel reservation clerks have at least a high school diploma. Many positions provide on-the-job training from other employees or supervisors, and strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills are highly beneficial for this position.
