A pharmacy counter assistant generally works in retail pharmacy settings. This assistant is overseen by the pharmacy manager, staff pharmacist, and lead pharmacy technician. The main role of the pharmacy counter assistant is to assist customers in the pharmacy. This includes operating a cash register, assisting with locating products in the store, accepting prescriptions that are dropped off, relaying questions to the pharmacist, and answering phones. A high school diploma or equivalent is the minimal educational requirement to be a pharmacy counter assistant.
