Job Description for Certified Management Accountant
Certified management accountants (CMAs) review their organization's financial reporting system to make sure that it adheres to relevant government laws and regulations, industry standards, and corporate rules. They focus more on internal financial transactions instead of auditing. CMAs must provide accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of financial data, as well as develop and maintain financial reporting systems, procedures, and policies to ensure their organizations provides accurate information in compliance with corporate and legislative requirements. CMAs must have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field, or an equivalent amount of experience and training. Relevant experience may be required in addition to a degree as well. CMAs are often required to be certified in business, economics, accounting, and/or management theory; they are usually not required to be certified public accountants. CMAs must have excellent oral and written communications skills, proficiency with basic computer programs, and the ability to work well on their own and in a group setting.
