Capital One Financial Corp Reviews

What is it like working at Capital One Financial Corp?

May 2019
Senior Software Engineer in Plano:
Great minds, inspiring leadership, adventurous journey and high expectations. Come join, learn and pave the way to success. Sometimes internal competition can lead to chaos but works well most times. Capital one breeds innovation.
April 2020
"Called a Scrum Master but they really want a project delivery lead."
Certified Scrummaster (CSM) in Richmond:
Pros: The amenities
Cons: The performance management process forces people to make decisions based upon fear and how they are publicly seen among their peers rather than on what is the most valuable decision for the customer. The status quo is rewarded and trust is not seen unless one goes along with everyone else. No real room to question the process.
November 2018
Compliance Manager:
Pros: good people, great benefits (high contribution for 401K, stock purchase plans), decent salary. Cons: mobility is tricky, reprganizations within the business too frequent, creates insecurity and anxiety to associates.
November 2018
"Great Benefits, Mediocre Tech."
Development Operations (DevOps) Engineer in Richmond:
Pros: I don't have to work that hard.
Cons: I'm not appreciated when I come up with better solutions. Stupidity routinely wins over elegant solutions or alternatives.
February 2019
Data Science Manager:
Pros: Excellent 9-5 work culture. Very nice coworkers. Reasonably good benefits. Cons: Company is extremely vertical and top-down directed. Rank matters greatly for having your voice heard. Extremely conservative work environment stifles innovation. Data access and management remains miserable despite years of work. Low pay relative to the rest of the financial sector. Often unable to accurately place senior people into appropriate hiring levels, resulting in resentment above and below.
April 2019
"Good place to work."

Pros: Flexible time and good perks
Cons: Business strategy isn’t clear and people are hired and then provided severance
July 2018
"Stressful but satisfying."

Pros: Benefits and time off
Cons: No future advancement at my location
